Two people were killed in a crash Monday night in Maine after their car struck a mailbox and a utility pole and went airborne, colliding with a second utility pole and a tree.

The crash happened a short time after the vehicle led police on a chase at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

The incident began around 10:30 p.m. when a deputy from the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office who was parked at the Turner Town Office at the intersection of Route 117 and Route 4 saw a dark-colored vehicle traveling north on Route 4 at a high rate of speed.

The deputy left the town office complex and started north on Route 4 trying to catch up to the vehicle. The suspect vehicle was driving over 100 mph and was seen passing other vehic
