Twin sisters Alice and Ellen Kessler died together earlier this week.
The renowned German entertainers, who rose to fame as a variety entertainment duo in the 1950s, died on Nov. 17 at age 89. According to the German newspaper Bild , the sisters chose to end their lives with medically assisted suicide . They said they no longer wanted to live.
Police were reportedly notified about their deaths after the process was complete.
Alice and Ellen told Bild in April 2024 that they wanted to be buried in the same urn with their mother, Elsa, and their dog, Yello, noting, "That’s what we stipulated in our wills."
Assisted dying became legal in Germany in 2020 as long as the lethal act is carried out by a medical professional and not the recipients themselves.
