41st Governor’s Gold Cup: Diamond Harbour overcomes Sikkim Police to enter quarterfinal round

GANGTOK, : Kolkata-based Diamond Harbour overcame Sikkim Police 3-1 on Tuesday to enter the quarterfinal round of the ongoing 41 st Governor’s Gold Cup football tournament here at Paljor Stadium.

Sikkim Police had taken the lead in the 17 th minute through an excellent goal from John Lepcha.

The police team held on to the 1-0 lead till late in the second half.

Diamond Harbour’s perseverance paid off when Amarnath Baskey found the equalizing goal in the 70 th minute. The match ended 1-1 leading to extra-time where the Kolkata side found a new momentum and scored two goals to win the match 3-1. The goal scorers were Thangi Soun Gangte and Akash Hembran.
