Once dismissed as a big-city problem, gun violence has found a foothold in Northern Ontario. Specifically, gun-related murders and attempted murders in Greater Sudbury have climbed to their highest level in five years, part of a disturbing rise in violence linked to the illegal drug trade.
Gun violence shatters a community’s sense of safety, leaving residents fearful and uncertain in places that once felt secure. Police continue to say the incidents are “targeted” with no threat to the public, but residents are growing doubtful.
