A proposed, interest-bearing, state revolving loan available to Claremont or any other financially struggling school district took a major step forward with the support of the Senate Education Committee on Tuesday.

Chairman Ruth Ward, R-Stoddard, said she’s hopeful the amended proposal could clear both chambers in the New Hampshire Legislature early in the 2026 session.

Over the past several weeks, Ward said she negotiated the language privately in concert with House Speaker Pro Tem Jim Kofalt, R-Wilton, who represented House Republican leaders.

“We have had several meetings with the House on this. We owe it to them to include their concerns in an amendment since this is going to have to go (back) to the House eventually,” Ward said.
