Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule got his start in college coaching in 1998.
He’s coached at seven different colleges and Rhule worked with the New York Giants as an assistant and with the Carolina Panthers as their head coach for two-plus seasons.
Rhule played his college football at Penn State in the mid-1990s for the late Joe Paterno. At one point, Rhule, a walk-on, said Monday he was a 230-pound scout team center at Penn State.
Rhule’s 7-3 Cornhuskers visit 4-6 Penn State on Saturday night.
Nebraska’s leader reflected on his playing days at Penn State and learning from Paterno.
“In terms of Coach Paterno, he didn’t speak to us very often,” Rhule said.
“He knew how to pick his spots. But when he spoke, the man’s charisma and his ability to enchant and capture a room was amazing.
