The Supreme Court of Appeal sitting in Blantyre has formally recorded the withdrawal of Dr. Thomson Mpinganjira’s appeal against his conviction for offering advantages to public officers.
Dr. Mpinganjira was convicted on September 10, 2021, and later granted bail in 2022 while awaiting the Supreme Court’s determination of his appeal.
However, the matter took a new turn after former President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera exercised his constitutional powers under Section 89(2) of the Constitution to grant him a presidential pardon during Malawi’s 61st Independence Day celebrations.
In line with court procedures, the withdrawal of an appeal must be officially registered in open court.
