BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Dan McGrath, best known for his work on “The Simpsons” and “Saturday Night Live,” has died at the age of 61 . His family said he passed away Nov. 14 after suffering a stroke in Brooklyn.

McGrath’s sister, Gail Garabadian, said McGrath was a devoted son, brother, uncle and friend. Colleagues and fans remembered his sharp wit and enduring influence on American comedy.

McGrath studied at Harvard University, where he became vice president of the humor magazine “The Harvard Lampoon.” His early career included a stop at “Saturday Night Live,” where he collaborated with Adam Sandler and earned an Emmy nomination in 1992.

McGrath joined “The Simpsons” later in 1992 and contributed to more than 50 episodes there. His writing credits included “Bart of Darkness,” “Treehous
