New Delhi, Nov 18: The Government of India has issued a public advisory following reports of Indian nationals being lured to Iran on false promises of employment or onward travel to third countries.

According to official inputs, many individuals were deceived into travelling to Iran by misusing the visa waiver facility available to ordinary Indian passport holders.

Upon arrival, several were allegedly kidnapped and held for ransom.

In response, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has suspended the visa waiver facility for ordinary Indian passport holders with effect from 22 November 2025.

From this date onward, Indian nationals will be required to obtain a valid visa to enter or transit through Iran. The suspension aims to curb the exploitation of visa-free entry by criminal
