A University of California, Berkeley student was hospitalized Friday after nearly drowning at a fraternity, according to campus officials.

The student's name wasn't released nor were the circumstances that led to their injuries.

"Our thoughts are with the student, their family, loved ones and friends during this time," according to a statement UC Berkeley officials released Monday. "We are following our protocols to offer support to the student and their family."

Authorities didn't say which fraternity it was but said it was a "recognized" organization and the near drowning happened at an off-campus location.
