Mangaluru: Lokayukta police officials carried out a file inspection at the Regional Transport Offices in Mangaluru and Udupi on Tuesday in connection with a case involving tax evasion during the registration of a luxury car.

According to officials, a BMW was registered at the Udupi RTO after its tax amount was allegedly reduced, resulting in an estimated loss of around 85 lakh rupees to the government. Certain procedures linked to the same registration were reportedly handled at the Mangaluru RTO as well, which led officers to inspect records at both locations.

During the verification, officials found some preliminary information. The Lokayukta SP said a detailed report will be submitted to the central office, and further action will be taken based on its directions.
