There’s construction equipment on Belle Isle again – this time, it’s for demolition purposes.

The area of the park that was once home to the long-defunct Belle Isle Zoo is being mostly cleared away to make room for new trails and improved parking.

Amanda Treadwell, Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Urban Field Planner, explained the situation to the Free Press.
