The New York Mets made the difficult decision to cut a pitcher whom they still owe $17 million, according to multiple reports Tuesday.

Veteran right-hander Frankie Montas was significantly hampered by injuries in his only season with the Mets after signing a one-year, $17 million contract with a player option for 2026. He began the season on the 60-day injured list due to a high-grade right lat strain sustained in spring training.
