The Abilene City Commission had several lengthy discussions during the Monday, Nov. 10 meeting. The discussions included postponing water shutoffs, drainage projects, the city purchasing policy and more.
Suspending water utility shut-offs
At the beginning of November, Quinday made the decision not to shut off the water of homes and residents who had not paid their water bills.
Quinday said 59 residences accrued late fees and 29 residences have not paid the late fees and would have their water shut off.
Quinday made the decision because of the federal government shutdown, which was still ongoing at the time and during this meeting, plus the impact of federal employment and food benefits.
