THE murder of a 32-year-old RSS volunteer in Ferozepur last week comes against the backdrop of a growing Sangh presence in the state, with an increase in number of shakhas as well as a rise in visibility, particularly during recent flood rescue operations.
It has also coincided with BJP emerging as a separate political entity in the state, having snapped ties with long-standing ally Akali Dal after the 2020 farmers’ agitation.
A little-known Sher-E-Punjab Brigade, pledging support to Khalistan, has claimed responsibility for killing of Naveen Arora, 32, on November 15 who belonged to an old Ferozepur-based RSS family. Meanwhile, as police investigate, struggling to make headway, three Shiv Sena leaders have now claimed to have received threat calls from the same outfit.
