MADISON (WKOW) -- Dane County Executive Melissa Agard announced Tuesday a new solar donation and fossil fuel free initiatives at Henry Vilas Zoo.
The donation of a solar pavilion is courtesy of Cal and Lourie Couillard, and will kick-start an effort to make the zoo fossil fuel free within the next 15 years.
"There's so many things that we do every day that are about sustainability and about helping recognize that for us all to survive, for ecosystems and community and communities across the globe, we need to be looking at how we can live better and do better and be more sustainable," said Rhonda Schwetz, the zoo's executive director.
The announcement builds on Dane County's nationally recognized leadership in climate action and sustainability.
