A tongue in cheek government apology has spectacularly backfired among parents.
On Tuesday evening, the Department for Education issued a rather bizarre statement online suggesting it was sorry for the amount of money it's helped parents save and the amount of 'free time' it's given them by offering breakfast clubs.
But within 30 minutes hundreds of parents and teachers had responded to the Facebook post, with many of them asking 'is this a joke?' and telling the government to 'read the room'.

Sharing the 'apology statement' the DfE said: "We'll take this on the chin" and then lists a number of 'unexpected consequences' that have resulted from its 'efforts to give every child the best start in life'. View 3 Images
