1PHILADELPHIA, PA – A mother and her two young children died early Tuesday morning after a fire broke out inside their North Philadelphia home, authorities said.

Firefighters and police responded just before 1 a.m. to reports of people trapped inside a residence on the 3400 block of North Hope Street.

Emergency crews found heavy smoke and flames concentrated in the kitchen area as they entered the home.

Victims found unresponsive inside burning home

Fire personnel discovered 46-year-old Nidre Annette Ayala unresponsive on the staircase leading to the second floor. She was transported to Temple University Hospital in critical condition with extensive burns and later died at 5:11 a.m.
