CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte nonprofit has shuttered its programs for elementary school students due to the presence of U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.

Over 20 Border Patrol agents were present at ourBRIDGE for KIDS' east Charlotte site on Monday morning, according to a statement on Instagram, which has led the organization to shut down until further notice.

The organization urged families to stay home in the meantime, and will continue to provide family support.

ourBRIDGE for KIDS provides afterschool programming for refugee and immigrant students in east and south Charlotte.

The nonprofit is taking donations and hosting a food drive to support Charlotte's immigrant community.

Donations can be sent on the website and will go towards baby formula, fresh produce and cardboard boxes.
