A woman died Tuesday morning after a house fire on Maryland Drive in Chattooga County. The Coroner’s Office was notified at 10:48am, shortly after a neighbor reported the fire with possible entrapment.

Summerville, Trion, and Hays CI firefighters arrived within minutes, searched the home, and cut into the structure to reach the victim. Despite rapid efforts by firefighters and Atrium Floyd EMS, she did not survive.

Chaplain Joel Smith and Chattooga County EMA provided support to the family. The Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating, but foul play is not suspected.

This is the county’s fourth fire fatality of 2025.
