BRUNSWICK COUNTY, Va. (WWBT) - A Brunswick County woman diagnosed with breast cancer says her employer-sponsored insurance plan excluded coverage for radiation therapy and chemotherapy treatments she needed to survive.
Tracey Edmonds was diagnosed with breast cancer on May 13, 2025. She had insurance through her employer but discovered her Anthem HealthKeepers plan did not cover crucial cancer treatments.
“I was newly diagnosed with breast cancer May 13th of 2025. And me, thinking I had the proper insurance to cover everything that I needed. And when it came down to it, I did not,” Edmonds said.
Edmonds was told the estimated cost was $3,000 per treatment, and she needed 20 treatments. Doctors said radiation was crucial to prevent the cancer from returning.
