IOWA CITY — Kirk Ferentz devoted a big chunk of a seven-minute opening statement in his Nov. 18 news conference to a robust senior class of Iowa football players who will compete at Kinnick Stadium for the last time this week against Michigan State.
This 27-player class is loaded with household names. A jarring 20 of those 27 have started at least one game this season on offense, defense or as a specialist.
But Ferentz made time to note four of the guys who aren’t among those 20 starters.
Like linebacker Zach Twedt, known best for his 2022 rescue of a stranded family on Interstate 35.
Like defensive end Kelby Telander, who was born deaf and was once was a Kid Captain for the Hawkeyes and now gets to finish his career as a player.
