In gratitude for the treatment he received during a near-death cardiac event in 2024, a Greenville man and his family have made a significant donation to Prisma Health to expand access to a type of life-saving technology that is often used when other treatments have failed.

Steve and Dorothy Dowe have donated $400,000 to the Prisma Health Upstate Foundation to increase the availability of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) treatment for critically ill patients.

The donation will help double Prisma’s ECMO treatment capacity, which is based at Greenville Memorial Hospital’s Heart Institute. The ECMO program is only one of two available in the Upstate, and without it it is all but certain that Steve Dowe would not be around to express his and his family’s gratitude.
