ASHEVILLE – If the 342-acre Deaverview Mountain opens as a public park, it would increase Buncombe County’s total park acreage by nearly 60%, according to a Nov. 13 update from staff.

In September, the county received official notice of a $4.5 million National Park grant, which in combination with funding secured by the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy, will be used for land acquisition of the mountaintop.
