COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A 40-year-old man is behind bars after police said he shot another man outside a Waffle House in Cookeville and led officers on a 10-hour manhunt through wooded areas.

Derrick Brown was arrested shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday at a business on Gould Drive, less than two miles from the Waffle House on South Willow Avenue, where the shooting occurred just after midnight.

Police say Brown shot a 21-year-old man in the stomach outside the restaurant, leaving him with critical injuries. The victim is being treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

“We were really concerned about what really happened,” said David Hunter, who manages the Shell Gas Station across the street from the Waffle House.
