David Smith isn't one to usually get too emotional.

But the departing Calrossy principal expects that to change when he walks out of the school gates for the last time next month.

"I'm not a crier, but there will be some tears and great sadness," he told the Leader as students, teachers, parents and the wider Calrossy community gathered at Tamworth Rugby Park on Tuesday to show their gratitude, and say farewell, to him and his wife Julie.

The event, put on by the Calrossy Parents and Friends (P&F), also celebrated the year that 2025 has been for the school.

After nine years, Mr Smith will finish up as principal in early December (technically his tenure ends on December 31).
