A flood warning has been put in place in Greater Manchester amid Met Office weather warnings, with heavy rain and a cold plunge battering the UK.

A severe weather warning has been issued for Greater Manchester by the meteorologists as an Arctic blast sweeps the UK. It comes after a day of heavy rain and sleet across the region.

Temperatures in the region are forecast to drop to -2C this week, with lows of -10C possible in parts of the country , the weather agency said, with outbreaks of heavy rain also expected over the coming days.

The Environment Agency has now put a flooding alert in place which covers the River Bollin catchment area, including Knutsford, Wilmslow , Macclesfield and Bollington.
