GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY — East Bay Township is one step closer to receiving a raptor sanctuary.

Earlier this month, the Planning Commission heard from Grand Traverse County and North Sky Raptor Sanctuary officials to hear their proposal for a raptor sanctuary at Camp Greilick.

This plan will be considered Phase 2, in addition to the first Phase of public park activities and structures approved in September.

During the Sketch Plan Review, the Planning Commission heard what was in store if the project was approved.

Claire Karner, the Director of Planning and Zoning, said that the Raptor Sanctuary would include an educational component, as well as an animal hospital, an interpretive trail, and a flight pen.

The sanctuary would also have a location to housing the birds in recovery.
