Michigan House Speaker Matt Hall of Richland Township has already said he will not bring forward legislation to expand the Freedom of Information Act to the offices of lawmakers and the governor, a move that keeps Michigan arguably the least transparent state in the nation.

Now, Hall's Republican-controlled House is pushing legislation that would shield vast amounts of information about elected officials from public view, effectively creating two sets of citizens: legislators and statewide elected officials, protected from having their addresses or workplaces revealed, and everyone else, including lesser officials.
