BONNER COUNTY, Idaho — Branden Durst served only four months as superintendent of West Bonner County School District before the state determined he wasn’t certified for the job. He’s now arguing the district fired him without cause and owes him more than $400,000 in lost wages and benefits.

Durst filed a lawsuit in February 2024 accusing the district of breaching his contract and the covenant of good faith when the school board accepted his apparent resignation in October 2023. Durst now argues he didn’t quit.

In his lawsuit, he claims the school board terminated him without cause and intentionally misrepresented a letter he sent as a resignation.
