Some 1980s TV shows were just ahead of their time. Unfortunately, this means that they never got the attention they deserved back when they premiered. The standards for television change with the decades, but that's not the only reason a good series might have flopped back in the day. In the 1980s, it was all weekly episodes and battling TV networks.
If a great TV show was unfortunate enough to be aired at the same time as another hit series on another channel, no one was going to see it. This led to countless cancellations in the 1980s. It's also worth considering that some stories need to be binged, but that really wasn't an option for new programming airing 40 (yes, 40) years ago.
