WASHINGTON — The push for the Justice Department to release all its files on the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has roiled Congress for months.

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Crescent Springs, was a leader of the movement, which notched a once-unthinkable victory on Tuesday, when the House voted 427-1 in support of his bipartisan legislation requiring full disclosure.

“This issue was never one that should have divided us the way it has,” said Jena Lisa Jones, a survivor of Epstein’s abuse who took part in a news conference before the vote. “In fact, it should have united us.”

Massie called it a vote for justice and transparency, but his effort made him the target of political and personal attacks.
