Hanan Elatr Khashoggi, widow of slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi, demanded that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman apologise and compensate her after he called her husband’s murder a "huge mistake".
Posting her message on X, she said there was no justification to murder my husband, calling the late Washington Post columnist a good, transparent and brave man whose push for press freedom.
Her remarks came as the Saudi crown prince made his first visit to the White House in seven years, insisting that his government had taken all the right steps after the 2018 murder. "It’s painful and it’s a huge mistake," Mohammed bin Salman said, adding that the kingdom was doing our best that this doesn’t happen again.
But Elatr said words alone were insufficient. "The Crown Prince said he was sorry,"
