TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - Pima County leaders have approved a new plan to support families affected by recent cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

The Board of Supervisors announced that new rules require SNAP recipients to complete at least 80 hours of work, training, or volunteering each month. Supervisor Jennifer Allen highlighted the impact of these cuts, saying they affect between 100 and 1,000 families, including refugees, veterans, and young adults leaving foster care.

"It will escalate as households have to choose between going hungry and paying for the rent at a time utility costs continue to rise," Allen said.

This initiative is being led by District 3 in Pima County.
