Members of Santa Maria High School's Alpine Club took a trip up the rock-wall at the Pad Climbing Gym in San Luis Obispo after the club's second outdoor movie night was held this semester featuring a presentation of "Valley Uprising" — a documentary on rock climbing in Yosemite National Park.

The movie night started during the COVID-19 pandemic to keep the students connected to the club, and has proven to be popular among students, according to the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District.

The film taught the students about Yosemite — which the club visits annually — while highlighting the club’s rock-climbing past, and serving as an intro to the students' rock-climbing activity.

The school club was founded in the 1960s as the "hiking club" — after the introduction of rock-climbing
