GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Residents, non-profits and community leaders were in attendance at the City of Grand Rapids' 'Commission Night Out,' looking to make a change when it comes to public safety, including addressing youth crime.
Kamarii Coleman had the opportunity at Tuesday nights 'Night Out' to mingle with police officers and city officials, after having his life turned around by the Grand Rapids Alternative Correctional Experience (GRACE).
“Back in April, I committed a carjacking,” Coleman said. “They put me in a program called the GRACE program. It's for juveniles who are facing adult charges on their way to prison, and it helps us learn what we want to be in life.”
GRACE's founder, Pastor Darryl Gaddy, was there and emphasized the importance of community collaboration.
