Former New York Mets reliever Ryan Helsley did not work out with the organization as many people had hoped.

In an ideal world, Helsley would have been the setup man for Edwin Diaz to close out games after being acquired in a deadline trade with the St. Louis Cardinals. Of course, in that same ideal world, the Mets would have made a deep playoff run as they were supposed to this past year.

Helsley admitted that being traded impacted him mentally more than he expected, and while the Mets organization likely understands that, it still can not bring him back next year.

Helsley is now a free agent, and MLB insider Jeff Passan is reporting he could be signed at a very reasonable price.
