The government has proposed a ₹30,000 crore outlay to extend and expand the UDAN regional air connectivity scheme beyond April 2027, with ₹18,000 crore for new airports and ₹12,000 crore for viability gap funding. The revised framework aims to address past challenges, boost private participation, and connect 120 more destinations, building on the 649 routes and 93 airports already operationalised. The plan now awaits clearance from the Expenditure Finance Committee and the Union Cabinet.
