From the outset, Corey Ridley knew he had big shoes to fill.
When the 2025 season came to a close, Ridley had overseen a Dungowan Cowboys first grade campaign that had showed promise but struggled to deliver results.
Many of the right pieces were there, but the Cowboys couldn't quite find the same success in first grade that they enjoyed in reserve grade, the under 18s, or both women's divisions .
Once the off-season began, long-time club president Rob Brady informed Ridley of his intent to step down.
It was surprising news to many familiar with Brady's unwavering commitment to the club.
"Rob told me he was stepping down, he'd had enough ... and me and Trent [Taylor, newly-appointed head coach] , had a bit of a yarn," Ridley said.
