Indian Railways has officially amended its catering policy to allow premium single-brand food chains like McDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut, Baskin Robbins, and Haldiram's to open outlets at stations.
A new category, called 'Premium Brand Catering Outlet,' has been added to the Indian Railways Catering Policy, 2017. Previously, only stalls selling light refreshments like tea, milk, and juice were permitted.
The Railway Board is now introducing this new category at railway stations, allowing major single-brand food chains to operate similar to those at airports.
In a circular issued to all zonal railways on November 13, the Railway Board confirmed that these outlets may be company-owned or run by franchisees and will be allotted only through the existing e-auction policy.
