The Cleveland Cavaliers are being fined $100,000 for sitting two of their star players on Nov. 12 against the Miami Heat .
Guard Donovan Mitchell and forward Evan Mobley both sat out the game for rest. The league considers this a violation of the the league’s Player Participation Policy. Mitchell and Mobley are considered “star” players by the league.
The policy is meant to promote participation in NBA regular season games. It was approved starting in the 2023-24 season and requires healthy players to play in nationally televised games and in in-season tournament games.
Among other things, as per the policy, teams are only allowed to sit one "star" player per game.
