Delhi Pollution: Taking note of air quality concerns in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), the Supreme Court Wednesday urged the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to consider issuing directions for schools in the area to shift their sports activities scheduled for November and December to “safer months”.

A bench of Chief Justice of India B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran, which is hearing air pollution-related matters, took into account the submission by Senior Advocate Aparajita Singh that making children attend such outdoor events when the air pollution is high “would amount to virtually putting” them “in a gas chamber.”

Singh is an amicus curiae in the matter.
