Farmers from across Canada are convening in New Brunswick this week for the annual National Farmers Union convention. This year's event focuses on themes of food sovereignty and justice. Phil Mount, the union's vice-president of policy, highlighted the relevance of food sovereignty amid ongoing trade tensions with the United States, which have brought Canadian food and producers into the spotlight.

The convention provides a platform for farmers and farm workers to engage in discussions about national policies and hear from various speakers. Key topics on the agenda include farmland ownership, international trade, the experiences of migrant workers, and seed sovereignty.

A special panel dedicated to Maritime food sovereignty is also scheduled, marking the first time the convention has taken place in New Brunswick. This gathering aims to foster dialogue and collaboration among agricultural stakeholders across the country, addressing pressing issues in the farming community.
