An autistic man is to recieve £125,000 from a London council after claims he was “imprisoned” in his own home for over eight years.
The man in his 30s was assessed by Southwark Council as needing 24/7 care, requiring two carers at home and three carers in the community.
The Southwark resident, who for legal reasons is referred to as SH, lived in the home with the constant presence of at least two carers between July 2012 and December 2020.
The front door was locked and he would often be prevented from going into the community because of concerns around his behaviour, the High Court heard.
His family took legal action against Southwark over his care.
Southwark Council later agreed a £125,000 settlement for the man but did not accept liability.
