British domestic intelligence agency MI5 has warned lawmakers and their staff to be on guard after a spate of suspicious outreach from China-linked accounts on the professional networking site LinkedIn.
Newsweek contacted the Chinese Foreign Ministry for comment by email.
Why It Matters
The United Kingdom and its "Five Eyes" intelligence-sharing partners—the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand—have previously raised concerns about Chinese espionage and state-affiliated hacking campaigns targeting sensitive industrial and security information.
What To Know
On Tuesday, MI5 sent emails to British peers, parliamentarians and their staff, naming Shirly Shen and Amanda Qiu as among the individuals posing as headhunters for Chinese firms on LinkedIn, The Telegraph reported.
