Morocco, as it turns out.
The climate is similar to the Canaries, with less of a breeze from the Atlantic trade winds – yet it hasn’t historically been as closely associated with tourism from the UK. The Moroccan government have been working hard to change this, plunging funding into the travel sector with the aim of attracting 26 million tourists by 2030, the same year it is set to co-host the FIFA World Cup.
Upon arriving in Agadir, a coastal city near the foot of the Atlas Mountains, this tourism drive was clear. There was a steady stream of hotels and apartment blocks in various stages of construction, as well as new bars springing up along the promenade.
