Balga — once deemed one of Perth ’s roughest, toughest suburbs — has smashed the $1 million property threshold with a battleaxe home selling for a seven-figure price tag.
The new record was set last month by a four-bedroom, two-storey home on a 368sqm rear block in a triplex subdivision.
It eclipses the previous high of $950,000, and the suburb’s $650,000 house median.
The milestone will no doubt challenge the long-running perception of Balga as a battler suburb, which emerged from its origins as a State Housing Commission development once comprised almost entirely of government homes.
The real estate agent behind the record sale, Daryan Abdullah of Harcourts Initiative, said the suburb’s image had started to change in recent years.
