Republican voters in portions of Lee and Chambers Counties went to the polls Tuesday to decide their party’s nominee in the House District 38 Special Primary Runoff Election. The seat became vacant earlier this year after former State Representative Debbie Wood relocated outside the district, triggering the need for a special election.

Kristin Nelson won the runoff with a clear majority, earning 1,609 votes for 54.45 percent of the vote. Garrett Dixon received 1,346 votes, finishing with 45.55 percent. With the victory, Nelson will advance to the Special General Election scheduled for February 3, 2026.

In a statement released Tuesday evening, Jeannie Burniston, Director of Legislative Affairs and Communications for the Alabama Republican Party, congratulated Nelson on the win.
