NORTH PROVIDENCE – A change to zoning for a stretch of Mineral Spring Avenue won’t lead to large-scale redevelopment projects, according to town officials.

Responding to resident and School Committee member Rod DaSilva asking about safeguards at a Nov. 5 Town Council meeting, Public Works Director Bernie Salvatore stated that the town’s comprehensive plan delineates how far a project can penetrate into a neighborhood, and that comprehensive plan would have to be modified at statewide planning for that to change.

DaSilva had indicated concern that changing this stretch from residential to commercial village (CV) zoning, similar to elsewhere in the Marieville section of town, could bring “something larger,” including a car mechanic or some other type of similar business.
