Pawtucket, we have a problem. And no, I don’t mean the potholes or the housing crisis – it’s our schools.
Earlier this year, the Valley Breeze reported that several Pawtucket schools received the state’s lowest performance rating, placing them in the bottom 5% on RIDE’s Accountability Report Card. In a letter to the district, Drew Echelson, RIDE’s deputy commissioner for system transformation, warned of the severity of the decline. This isn’t just about test scores – it reflects what students and teachers face daily: limited resources, outdated buildings, and learning conditions that are falling apart.
And we know what state intervention can mean. In 1991, Central Falls was taken over. In 2019, Providence. Takeovers follow years of instability and frustration. So we must ask: Is Pawtuc
